Complete
Vespa smallframe engine strip down and rebuild.
7. Removing the gears.
Removing the gears on a smallframe is necessary so you can replace
the shift cross. You'll need your external circlip pliers. Expand
the circlip to remove it and then remove the thin spacer ring.
You should now be able to remove the gears. Each cog
should only be fitted one way so make a note of the way they come
off. Don't worry too much about this if you forget. They should
be evenly spaced when they go back on and should not have any free
play when you put them back on. There's only really one way to put
them back on so this is achieved. When you have removed them you'll
see this:
This is the rear axle/shift dog assembly. We'll be
removing this in the next step.
